Opening Night
Sister Act world premiere gets the whole house on their feet and Whoopi dancing on the Palladium stage!
The evening of 2nd June 2009 saw the red carpet rolled out at the front of the London Palladium for the official opening night performance of Sister Act. Guests at the premiere included Andrew Lloyd Webber, Tim Rice, Elaine Page, Bruce Forsyth, Cilla Black, Jane Krakowski, Sinita, Jason Isaacs, Christopher Biggins, Les Dennis, Brian Conley, Sheridan Smith, Claire Sweeney and Gok Wan. Producer Whoopi Goldberg graced the stage with her presence for the final curtain call, coming on to congratulate Patina Miller, Sheila Hancock and the entire cast before shimmying her way off to the music. The show went down a storm, with the audience jumping immediately to their feet as the lights went down for a standing ovation that undoubtedly raised the roof of the Palladium! Patina Miller emerged the new star of the West End with everyone blown away by her phenomenal stage presence and vocal skills, with Bruce Forsyth calling her 'one of the best performers I have ever seen' in a show which he thought was 'absolutely tremendous'.
Whoopis national US chat show The View didnt miss out on the red carpet celebrations as Whoopi's co-hosts joined her live at the Palladium by satellite link. She chatted with Patina and other members of the cast just before their premiere performance and gave The View audience across America a sneak preview of our show and a tour of the Palladium whilst in the throes of preparations for opening night. We're exclusively bringing you the red carpet footage here.
