Sister Act producers Stage Entertainment have joined forces with Barnardo's to bring the very first charity Nun Run to the capital this spring. On Sunday 3 May hundreds of 'nun runners' will pound a four mile course along both sides of the River Thames, starting and finishing at Dunster Court off Fenchurch Street in London.
'Nuns' of all gender, ages and ability are welcome to register for one of the year's biggest and most uplifting charity events. Entry is £20, which includes a complete nun outfit and a donation to Barnardo's. On the day registration begins at 10.30am with the celebrity starter gun fired at 11.30am. Participants signing up at www.runnersworld.com/nunrun will also be entered into a prize draw to win one of 200 pairs of tickets to the highly anticipated musical, starring Patina Miller, Sheila Hancock and Ian Lavender.
Victoria Veats, Head of UK Events for Barnardo's, said:
"Barnardo's is thrilled to have been chosen as the beneficiary charity for London's first
Nun Run, launching the fabulous new show "Sister Act". Having some fun whilst raising
money and keeping fit sounds like a great combination and we hope to see lots of
runners of all ages and abilities taking part. The money raised will make a real impact
on the vulnerable and disadvantaged children that Barnardo's works with.
Barnardo's provides direct support to over 100,000 children, young people and
families in local projects throughout the UK, as well as continually campaigning for
lasting improvements to their lives."
Adam Spiegel, Producer for Stage Entertainment, said:
"We are delighted to be joining forces with Barnardo's to launch London's 2009 Nun
Run. Sister Act is a hugely positive, upbeat and very funny show with a great
message of friendship, support and self discovery and it's so fitting that we are
involved in a hugely positive, upbeat and very funny event in aid of a charity that
works so hard to improve the lives of young people in the UK. I'm also very pleased to
play a small part in gathering hundreds of 'nuns' to run through the streets of London
this May!"
The Nun Run is launched in partnership with 2:09 Events, a company set up by London Marathon winner Mike Gratton, which works with the running world and many charities to stage over twenty.
